Jason and Ellie Day are expecting their third child in June 2018, and that means the former world No. 1 may have to bow out of the US Open at Shinnecock Hills.

The Days made the announcement on social media, accompanying Day withdrawing from the Hero World Challenge at the end of November. Day pulled out of the tournament so he could be with his wife through the early stages of the pregnancy, as this would be the second consecutive event after making the rare appearance in the Australian Open the week prior. Day hasn't played in Australia since 2013.

The couple's two children are Dash and Lucy.

Fellow Aussie Marc Leishman has also pulled out of the event, choosing instead to play in the Australian PGA Championship in a change of heart after his original plan was to be in the Hero, where Tiger Woods will make his competitive return.

Henrik Stenson and Kevin Chappell replace the Aussies in the field.

Come June, Days indicated, he will abide by the Phil Mickelson Rule, bowing out of a major (or other significant golf tournament) if Ellie goes into labor during the championship week.
